Los Angeles airport police used the Taser to subdue a Danville man after he breached security Wednesday at LAX, officials said. Airport police were informed by
Transportation Security Administration officials that a man, later identified as 21-year-old Christian James Heinz, had failed to cooperate with security officials in the screening area incident filter at Terminal 6.
When police tried to help TSA officers, Heinz refused to cooperate and ignored one officer. They tracked down Heinz and detained him at Gate 66.
Actor Verne Troyer, best known for his role as Mini Me in the “Austin Powers” series, was at the airport and recorded Heinz communicating with the present. at school closed.
In Troyer’s video, which the actor posted to his YouTube channel, an officer can be seen trying to handcuff Heinz, who then raises his hand and walks away.
Another mobile phone video taken by a passenger in the terminal shows an officer deploying the Taser on Heinz as he lies face down on the ground.
Heinz, who was unarmed, was taken to the hospital for examination. Heinz’s father said he and his wife were shocked by the incident. He said his son, who is
studying business administration at UC Berkeley, will be returning home from Panama, where he is participating in a university-sponsored program to provide
financial instruction to low-income people. . . .
“He came back from a mission, which is a good thing,” said Heinz’s father. “Why he did what he did, I don’t know.” Airport police spokeswoman Alicia Hernandez said Heinz had been charged with trespassing and resisting arrest. No passengers at the checkpoint were injured.
