Darrell Brooks Jr drove an SUV into a Christmas parade in Wisconsin, killing six people and injuring dozens. At Waukesha County Courthouse on November 16,

Darrell Brooks Jr. (40 years old) was convicted of 76 counts, including 6 counts of first-degree murder and 61 counts of reckless endangerment.

In total, Brooks received six life sentences. On November 21, 2021, Brooks drove his red Ford Escape to the Christmas parade in downtown Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA.

The incident left 6 people dead, including an 8-year-old boy participating in the parade, and many others were injured. At trial, Brooks said he suffered from mental

illness as a child and had no intention of driving on the parade route.

He also apologized first of all to the dozens of people who were injured and those who lost loved ones in the incident.

“Like I said, people will believe what they want, that’s okay. But I need to make this clear: What happened was not an attack. It was not planned. Italy I’m this is not an attempt,” Brooks said.

However, Brooks did not explain what brought the SUV into the parade. Brooks’ mother and grandmother convinced the judge to put him in a mental institution

instead of prison. Brooks’ grandmother said he has had bipolar disorder since he was 12 and that’s why he drove his car to the parade.

“If they have to live in isolation for the rest of their lives, at least let them get the emotional support they need,” says Dawn Woods, Brooks’ mother treatment

in prison.

The words that made Brooks cry Judge Jennifer Dorow ordered Darrell Brooks Jr. life sentence without parole. She spent the day before the trial reading letters

from dozens of victims.
