A man is said to have pushed the officer after being pulled over before a group of people stopped at the scene to assist.
WILLOUGHBY, Ohio – Willoughby Sheriff Jim Schultz personally thanked several Good Samaritans who stopped to help one of his officers during an incident Saturday afternoon.

Officer Stacee Wright stopped a motorist for speeding on Lost Nation Road shortly before 4:25 p.m., according to officials. when the man stopped and got out of the car without being asked. Wright asked him to sit down, but the man refused, eventually pointing his finger at her face and pushing her.
After the suspect continued to refuse multiple orders to put his hands behind his back or get in the car, a “grapple” ensued between him and Wright.

Willoughby Det. Sgt. Michael Sevel told 3News that Wright did a great job in that situation, with the help of bystanders who took action right away.

As Wright and the suspect struggled, four people who were not previously in the area stopped to help and they assisted her in subduing the man and arresting him.

“His behavior was very aggressive towards her, he refused some of her orders, all of these are red signs,” Sgt. Sevel explained. : So we’re grateful it ended like that, because it could have ended worse.

Schultz greeted the community in a statement released on Facebook.

“I’m so proud of our community and the tremendous support we receive on a daily basis,” Schultz wrote earlier this week. “Saturday is another great example. I appreciate that!! Thanks!”

The suspect has been identified as David Koubeck, 64, of Mentor. He is scheduled to appear in court this Thursday on charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, along with speeding and not wearing a seat belt.
The Willoughby Police Department has not released the names of the Good Samaritans who stopped to help the officer, but confirmed that they have identified three of the four. Officer Wright was taken to University Hospital’s Lake West Medical Center and treated for minor injuries before being released.
